Online service and communications
The demand among our members and pensioners for online communications and services through OPTrust’s website (www.optrust.com) continued to increase sharply in 2010. The site features a variety of resources to help members and pensioners learn more about their OPTrust pensions, including a range of news updates, pension publications and retirement planning tools. Over the year, the site experienced an 18% increase in traffic, reaching 335,689 unique visits, up by more than 50,000 from 2009.
The public site also offers a gateway to our secure Online Services site, which allows members and pensioners to view and update their personal pension information and complete certain pension transactions online. This popular, password-protected site also allows users to communicate with OPTrust staff in a secure environment using encrypted web-based messaging and change their preferences to receive OPTrust communications online rather than in print.
In 2010, the total number of members and retirees registered for Online Services increased to over 27,800, up 25% from 2009. By year-end, 33% of the total membership had signed up for the service.
The number of visits to OPTrust's public website rose to almost 336,000 in 2010, up from 285,000 the previous year. The sharp increase in site visits demonstrates our members' and pensioners' increasing preference for online service and communications.
