Reciprocal Transfer Agreements

If you leave the OPSEU Pension Plan and start to work with an employer who participates in another pension plan, you may be eligible to transfer your OPTrust pension directly to your new pension plan, provided you are not covered by the divestment provisions under the PBA.

The OPSEU Pension Plan has reciprocal transfer agreements with 19 Canadian public and broader public sector pension plans. Even if OPTrust does not have a transfer agreement with your new plan, you may still be able to transfer your pension. There are important deadlines under these arrangements. For more information on transferring your pension and an up-to-date list of plans that have transfer agreements with OPTrust, please see OPTrust’s Fact Sheet Transferring Pension Credit Out of the OPSEU Pension Plan or contact our Member and Pensioner Services staff.

Important: If you are moving to a new employer in a divestment situation, you cannot transfer your “special deferred pension” from OPTrust to your new plan.
