Future Improvements to the
OPSEU Pension Plan

FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE OPSEU PENSION PLAN

As a divested member, you are eligible to receive the benefits resulting from the OPSEU Pension Plan that are in place at the date of divestment. Your right to these benefits is protected under the
Pension Benefits Act.

If the Plan’s benefits are improved after your termination date, the PBA does not automatically extend these benefit improvements to you. Decisions about extending additional benefits in the future are not made by OPTrust, but by the Plan sponsors – OPSEU and the Government of Ontario.

KEEPING YOU INFORMED

Divested members, or “special deferred pensioners,” retain important rights in the OPSEU Pension Plan. This includes the possibility of qualifying for OPTrust’s early retirement options as long as they remain with their new employer.

To help keep divested members informed about their entitlements in the Plan, OPTrust mails each of them a special version of our Annual Pension Statement. We also mail divested members our quarterly newsletter OPTions.

Important: Please be sure to notify OPTrust of any changes in your address, beneficiaries or employment status, following your divestment. OPTrust needs this information to keep you informed about your rights and entitlements and any changes affecting your pension.
