Vesting: Your right to a pension

Once you are “vested,” you have the right to receive an unreduced pension from OPTrust at age 65. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for one or more early retirement options.

When you leave your job and terminate your membership in the Plan, your pension options depend on whether you are vested or not. For service after 1986, you are vested once you have two years of credit or continuous membership in the Plan. For service before 1987, you are vested after 10 years of continuous plan membership or credit, or if you are age 45 or older with 10 years of continuous employment.
