Introduction
OPTrust's Mandate
The OPSEU Pension Trust (OPTrust) was created through a Sponsorship Agreement between the Province of Ontario and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), and began operations on January 1, 1995. OPTrust is responsible for administering the OPSEU Pension Plan and managing the OPSEU Pension Plan Trust Fund on behalf of our sponsors – OPSEU and the Government of Ontario – and 77,000 plan members and retirees. At December 31, 2006, OPTrust was responsible for managing pension assets totalling $13.6 billion.

OPTrust’s mandate is to:
  • generate a rate of return on investments over the long term that supports our pension promise
  • provide the finest service and communications to our members and pensioners
  • give members and pensioners a real voice in the Plan through joint trusteeship.
