There are two methods of transmitting data to and from the OPSEU Pension
Trust. Each method has its benefits and caveats.
This preferred method for the file transmittal process is through the use of the
Canada Post’s secure, Web-based PosteCS document delivery service. PosteCS
offers:
- Real-time tracking
- An electronic postmark (an official date and time stamp and to demonstrate
that documents have not been tampered with)
- 128-bit transmission encryption (requires an SSL enabled browser)
- 1024-bit server level encryption
- Password protection
- Unlimited file size attachments
- Storage of up to 10 days on the secure PosteCS server.
For more information, visit the Canada Post Web site at:

PosteCS offers several advantages to this process over conventional e-mail and
method 2 (Courier). These include:
- a high level of security
- generally lower costs than the courier method
- efficient and organized file tracking
OPTrust will not cover the employer-incurred expense for using this method.

Important! To ensure the security of member’s pension data, employers should not
send data files or other confidential information by unsecured Internet e-mail.

The second method of transmittal is to save the data file(s) on a
write-protected diskette and send it to OPTrust in a protective envelope via
courier. OPTrust will not cover the expense for the courier. All diskettes
received by OPTrust are stored for one year on site. If the employer requires
these diskettes back, OPTrust will purge all data and return them upon request.
This process is easy for the employer to implement, however, over time it may
become costly and inefficient. Disadvantages include the additional time
required for preparing and shipping the diskette, the risk that the diskette may
be lost or damaged in shipping, and the risk to the security of the data.
