What about health, dental and life insurance benefits?
What are the benefits?
Insured benefits for eligible pensioners include coverage for: dental, supplementary health and hospital and basic life insurance. The premiums for these benefits are paid by the Ontario Government. For members who want vision care and hearing aid plan coverage, there is a small premium that is deducted from the monthly pension payment. Employer-paid premiums for basic life insurance are considered a taxable benefit.
For more details on insured benefits, please refer to the Ministry of Government Services booklet: A Guide to your Benefits – After Retirement. This booklet is available from OPTrust. The Pension Connection, an OPTrust newsletter for pensioners, regularly provides questions and answers related to insured benefits.
If you are eligible for insured benefits you can get more information on your coverage from Great-West Life at 1-800-990-6654.
