Updated Plan Booklet
OPTrust recently updated its comprehensive plan booklet
It’s Your Pension to reflect new changes to the OPSEU Pension Plan.
The revised plan booklet covers the temporary and permanent benefit
improvements and the extended contribution reductions implemented as a
result of funding gains in the Plan. Temporary plan benefits are
highlighted in a separate insert at the front of the booklet.
The booklet also covers a description of the permanent features of the Plan
from the time a member joins through retirement and survivor benefits.
Other key sections include:
-
Pension plan basics
-
Member contribution rates
-
Transfers to and from the OPSEU Pension Plan
-
Accruing credit in the Plan
-
Retirement options
-
Inflation protection
Another key feature is the addition of a pocket on the back inside cover.
This allows for important forms or other time sensitive material to be
inserted when necessary.
OPTrust will not be doing a mass mailing of the updated plan booklet to
members’ homes. Members, however, will be informed in the next issue of
OPTions that they can order a printed copy by contacting OPTrust or visit
our Web site to access the online version.

New Booklet on Divestments
In response to member requests, OPTrust has developed a new booklet
Your
Pension and Divestments, specifically designed for divested
members or those involved in a divestment situation. The booklet provides
detailed information on members’ rights and options in a divestment
situation and answers many important questions, including:
-
What happens to a pension after the divestment?
-
What happens to an active buyback?
-
What retirement options are available for divested members?
-
How a pension is calculated when a member is divested
-
Do divested members receive insured benefits?
-
What information is provided about benefits after a divestment
The booklet also includes a number of illustrated examples, answers to
frequently asked questions and a glossary of common pension terms.
A copy of Your Pension and Divestments will be mailed to the homes of all
divested members mid-August. An online version of the booklet will be
available on the OPTrust Web site early September. OPTrust will also feature
a brief article in the next issue of OPTions highlighting the booklet’s
release.
In the future, when a member is divested from the Plan, OPTrust will
automatically mail a copy of the new booklet to their home. Since divested
members retain important rights in the Plan also provides them with regular
issues of our quarterly newsletter OPTions, a personalized Annual Pension
Statement and other important information.

Booklet Series
Along with It’s Your Pension and Your Pension and Divestments, OPTrust
offers additional publications as part of our series of easy-to-read
booklets about the Plan. The booklets
are important resource tools for members, pensioners and employers because
they each address a specific topic in greater detail than the plan booklet.
The series covers a variety of topics from naming beneficiaries to
purchasing credit and planning for retirement and more. The additional
booklets include:
-
Your Pension and Your Beneficiaries
-
Your Pension and Buying Back Credit
-
Your Pension and the Canada Pension Plan*
-
Your Pension and Leaving Your Employment*
-
Your Pension and Your Retirement*
Each booklet also provides valuable information pertaining to members and
pensioners’ different life stages.
* These booklets are currently being updated to reflect the changes made to
the OPSEU Pension Plan in late 2002 and will be available for distribution
this fall.
