OPTrust Offices Receive LEED Gold Certification

July 15, 2025 | 3-min read

TORONTO, July 15, 2025 — OPTrust is proud to announce that it has achieved LEED® Gold certification for its offices at 1 Adelaide St. East, an internationally recognized symbol of excellence in green building and sustainability.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is awarded by the Canada Green Building Council and represents the global standard in sustainable building design and operations. With this Gold-level achievement, OPTrust demonstrates its ongoing strong commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and team wellness.

“At OPTrust, our vision is to deliver peace of mind in retirement for our members, invest sustainably for the long-term health of the Plan, and create an inclusive and fulfilling work experience for our people,” said Peter Lindley, President and CEO of OPTrust. “Achieving this certification is recognition that our team’s work environment reflects that ambition.”

The LEED certification of OPTrust’s office, which is owned by our Real Estate Group, highlights the organization’s dedication to sustainable building practices, further advancing our climate change strategy and commitment to responsible investing.

In addition to this LEED certification, last year, OPTrust achieved an 11 per cent reduction in emissions intensity and invested $400 million in green bonds through year-end 2024.

“This certification underscores OPTrust’s commitment to integrating sustainability into both our investments and our operations,” said Rob Douglas, Senior Managing Director, Real Estate Group at OPTrust. “One hundred per cent of OPTrust’s new real estate developments are now designed in accordance with environmental certification standards, and we are proud our offices reflect that commitment.”

LEED certification contributes to a healthier, more sustainable work environment, supporting OPTrust’s ongoing commitment to service excellence and fostering an inclusive and fulfilling workplace. OPTrust is a co-owner of 1 Adelaide St. East, which is also LEED® Gold certified.
